A Taste of Sicily Itinerary
DAY 1: PALERMO
Arrival in Palermo, private transfer from airport to your 4-star accommodations. After settling in, it’s time for a City Highlights Tour, making visits to the Norman Palace, Quatro Canti, St. John of the Hermits, Teatro Massimo and Monreale.
That evening enjoy a special “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite restaurants in Palermo, for that matter in all of Italy! (D)
DAY 2: PALERMO
What fun (and food!) you will have on a Market Tour & Cooking Lesson Adventure with one of Palermo’s most entertaining chefs! Visit one of the city’s famous and lively outdoor markets filled with all the delicious ingredients necessary for the class. Then, at the chef’s restaurant, you will create a wonderful Sicilian meal. That night, enjoy the fruits of your labor as you eat a true Italian meal – a meal you prepared!
This evening we leave free for you to enjoy on your own or for you to catch up with the time adjustment before we head on to our next destination! (B, L)
DAY 3: PALERMO to MENFI
Mid-morning departure for our next destination. But first a visit to the incredibly well-preserved Greek temple of Segesta and then on to one of our favorite wineries to sample the citrus-inspired wines of the region accompanied by a light lunch.
Late afternoon we arrive at our lovely accommodations for the next two nights and enjoy a delicious light dinner created by the hotel’s excellent chef. (B, L, D)
DAY 4: MENFI
This day is all about wine. Today we visit one of Sicily’s top producers of “cataratto” at a vineyard in a gorgeous Sicilian setting (a light lunch will accompany the tour). Late afternoon return to the hotel for some relaxation time before enjoying a cooking demonstration and dinner at the hotel. (B, L, D)
DAY 5: MENFI to AGRIGENTO
After breakfast, we’re off to The Valley of the Temples, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Sicily and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then will make a stop at one more winery for a tasting of some of Sicily’s finest Nero d’Avola.
In late afternoon we will check in to our charming accommodations at an active oil olive-producing estate (where tastings will be a must!) and enjoy a wonderful Sicilian feast that evening. (B, D)
DAY 6: AGRIGENTO to MODICA
Today we head east to Ragusa for a short visit and then on to our destination for the next two nights, Modica. In Modica we will stay at one of our favorite hotels in Sicily. Both Ragusa and Modica (along with Noto) are famous for their Baroque architecture and atmospheric backstreets. Together they form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will explore beautiful Modica, visiting one (or two!) of its world-famous Chocolate Factories as well as its gorgeous Baroque church of San Giorgio.
The evening will be free to enjoy on your own. A list of recommended restaurants will be provided. (B, L)
DAY 7: MODICA
No visit to the area would be complete without a coffee and pastry (caffe and pasta) at Caffe Sicilia, in the main piazza of Noto. Consider this a “second breakfast” before heading on to our next destination of Siracusa! Siracusa was one of the most powerful and sophisticated cities of the ancient world. The tour with a licensed guide highlights the Greek theater, Roman amphitheater, the cave known as the Ear of Dionysus, and the historic center of the island of Ortygia.
Late afternoon return to the hotel for relax and packing time, then one last “Gala” dinner together at a 1-star Michelin and “Buon Ricordo” restaurant. (B, D)
DAY 8: MODICA to ?
Time to say “arrivederci” to Sicily with a full suitcase of goodies and great memories of our week-long adventure. Transfers to the Catania Airport will be arranged and/or we can assist you in staying a few extra days in Sicily or elsewhere in Italy. BUON VIAGGIO!
